Input Sources
This Multi-Zone Application Solution provides an Office, Factory, and/or Warehouse facility with 3 different types of input sources: live paging from any PBX extension, high priority override paging from a specific phone or loop start port, and background music from a tuner or any type of playback device.
Background Music
The PCM2000 Paging Control System allows background music to play to all the zones of the application (globally) using a single background music source. Background music can also be disabled for particular zones if it is not desired (such as meeting rooms or executive office areas). In addition to the global background music capability, the PCM2000 also allows any of its zone paging modules (up to 3 zones per module) to connect to a separate (local) background music source allowing different types of music to play in different areas as appropriate.
Telephone Interfacing & Zone Paging
The PCM2000 Zone Paging Controller adapts a telephone system’s loop start, ground start, or analog ring up station port to the paging system. This single device provides a means to interface to all typical analog circuit cards in a PBX or key system as well as Centrex lines and, through touch tones, allows users to select a paging area in which to make a page. The PCM2000 is modular and can be configured to service as few as 1 to 3 zones or as many as 99. Multiple zones can be combined into zone groups as a convenience. The PCM2000 also provides for night ring alerting through the paging system speakers. An externally triggered tone for applications such as shift changes is built into the PCM2000. Eight time-triggered tones can be programmed into a PCM2000 and triggered by its internal real time clock, as well as “code calling” using tone patterns. Use different tones for shift changes, breaks, alerts, etc. Hands free two-way paging into selected zones is also possible, and is necessary in order for certain employees who work with their hands to respond to a page easily and efficiently without needing to stop what they are doing to get to a phone.
Input Priority
The input sources and tone features of the PCM2000 have preset priorities to allow these various input sources (such as microphone, telephone page, music source, night ring, etc.) to work properly together. The override input has the highest priority followed by the time-triggered tone, externally triggered tones, normal pages, night ring, and lastly background music. Lower priority inputs are muted by the higher priority ones. This allows important communication to reach the appropriate zones even if other sources are playing in the zones.
70V Amplifier
All input signals eventually reach the 70V amplifier’s inputs. Here the small weak signals are amplified to a level that can operate the system’s speakers. Different amplifier models have different numbers and types of inputs and ways to prioritize inputs. They also have other functions for changing and optimizing the sound and different output power capacities. All audio signals from the PCM2000 are sent to the input of the 70V amplifier (TPU250) and then sent back to the PCM2000 to be routed to the selected paging zone.
Paging Zone Types
(Using Central Amp)
There are various ways of getting paging signals to zones. Typically the amplified signal from the central 70V amplifier (TPU250) is routed through the PCM2000 to a group of 70V speakers.
(Using Remote Amp)
In certain applications, the amount of amplifier power needed to operate speakers in a particular zone is more than the PCM20000 can switch (250W max) using a 250-watt amp (TPU250). In these cases, a 70V amplifier (GS250) is remotely located in that zone and a low-level paging signal, compatible with the amplifier’s input, is sent by the PCM2000 to that amplifier. All speakers in that zone are directly connected to the output of the remotely located amplifier.
(Using Network Connections)
In other cases it may by physically difficult, or expensive to pull wire from the PCM2000 location to the location of a desired zone, for instance a building on the other side of a public road from the paging equipment. If there already exists a network connection in this problem zone, a Miulti VoIP approach can be used to exploit the existing network connection to the problem zone for paging purposes. A Multi VoIP Gateway (MVP210) is connected to a PCM2000 zone output (and network) and a companion gateway is connected at the problem zone, which then connects to an amplifier and speakers. Pages to the problem zone are converted to network packets, sent through the network, and picked off and reconverted in the problem zone as a voice page.
70V Speakers
70V amplifiers need compatible 70V speakers; typical home speakers will not work on these systems. Bogen provides a wide range of 70V speakers to meet the demands of many applications. Weatherproof Horn Speakers (SPT15A) and weatherproof full-range NEAR A-Series speakers are excellent for harsh environments. Bogen also provides a wide range of indoor speakers to meet the challenges of different types of structural environments from drop ceiling-mounted speakers (S86), quick to install Drop-In Ceiling Speakers (CSD1X2), and surface-mounted Easy Install Speakers (SM4T) to NEAR Orbit Pendant Speakers (OPS1) that hang in high atriums, beam-mounted horn speakers (SPT15A) in warehouses, and high-quality full-range NEAR Orbit Ceiling Speakers (OCS1) in the boardroom.
